Unidentified Flying Object
On my way back from work on Saturday 17th October 2009, at 20:30 BST, I saw a strange object in the sky. I stopped my car at the ‘Old bowling Green’ car park, where there were some drunk teenagers, who could also see the object.
The object was drifting slowly at about 100 feet. It was orange in colour and quite bright, when I first saw it, I thought it was a bright street light, but was too high. It was shaped like a pom-pom with many spine like radials and uniformed colour and brightness (about that of a flare). It was far too solid to be a flare, produced no smoke, and was observed for at least 5 mins without changing in brightness, size (about that of a beachball) or colour. It was too bright and irregularly shaped to be one of the infamous ‘chinese lanterns’ that are often blamed for unusual orb sightings. It did seem to be drifting in the wind, but could equally well have been powered. There were no unusual psychic anomolies or feelings associated with the object. It was certainly a UFO by definition, but its origins may be otherworldly or mundane.
This is not the first such object I have seen in the Torrington area. During the summer I saw a very bright ornage object travelling at the speed of a helicopter in a very controlled fashion at the other end of the commons.
